Dr. Dena Cabrera and colleague, Judy Marty, came from Rosewood Centers for Eating Disorders to visit Flagstaff and present for our NAPS community on October 18th. Dr. Cabrera spends her professional time directing services at multiple locations including their two residential facilities in Wickenburg, AZ and Santa Monica, CA. It is important to note, other services include inpatient treatment, extended day, partial hospitalization, intensive outpatient, and transitional living. Dr. Cabrera shared some important treatment consideration when working with individuals diagnosed with these complex disorders (e.g., working with families, concurrent substance addiction, and trauma). She shared valuable information about working with patient’s primary care providers to address both physical and psychological aspects of these disorders in a respectful and productive manner. Dr. Cabrera shared current research linking trauma and some eating disorders, and how this complex interaction contributes to treatment challenges. We are grateful to have these folks as our community partners.
